A decree published in the Official Journal on Thursday sets the number - sometimes very precise - of secure parking spaces for bicycles that SNCF and RATP will have to install in the immediate vicinity of many stations by 2024.

The text provides that the equipment must include
"fixed devices making it possible to stabilize and secure each bicycle by the frame and at least one wheel"
.
They must be
"located in a covered and lighted place"
and be either closed or supervised by a person present on the premises or by video surveillance.
"They can be made up of several infrastructures, which are located less than 70 meters from an access to the passenger building or to the quays, except in the event of proven technical impossibility"
, according to the decree, which governs the application of a measure included in the mobility orientation law of 2019.
853 spaces at Gare du Nord
The decree also includes a long list of stations of the SNCF network and of the Ile-de-France RER, with for each of them the minimum number of secure parking spaces for bicycles. The two public groups will thus have to install 10 in Amplepuis (Rhône) or Besançon Franche-Comté TGV (Doubs), 310 in Dijon, 880 in Bordeaux and 1,000 in Juvisy (Essonne), Lyon Part-Dieu, Paris Saint-Lazare or Strasbourg . The figures are very precise for Parisian stations, with 53 locations planned at Charles de Gaulle-Etoile, 84 at Nation, 103 at Denfert-Rochereau or 853 at Gare du Nord.
