The revenues of the General Organization for Free Zones recorded during the first five months of this year an increase of 3.6 billion Syrian pounds compared to the same period in the previous year.
The Corporation achieved revenues of 12.8 billion pounds in the first five months of 2021, compared to 9.2 billion pounds for the same period in 2020, according to a statement of the material indicators of the performance of the corporation from the beginning of this year until the end of May, of which SANA obtained a copy.
In its statement, the Foundation stated that the capital invested in the free zones in foreign exchange amounted to 414 million dollars, while the total value of goods and vehicles entering the free zones (import free) amounted to 26 billion liras. 43 billion pounds, taking into account that these figures fall within the same time bracket of five months of this year.
The report indicated that the total customs duties collected by the General Customs Directorate as a result of placing goods and machinery in the free zones for local consumption amounted to 8.3 billion pounds.
As for the number of investors in the various branches of the free zones, the Foundation indicated that their number until the end of last May amounted to 829 investors, indicating that these investments provide job opportunities for more than 5,000 workers.
In Syria, there are 9 free zones distributed over the governorates of Damascus and Latakia, two for each, and one in each of Tartous, Aleppo, Hasaka, Homs and Daraa.
