INDEC will release this Wednesday what inflation was in May, which, according to official sources
, will be between 3.7 and 3.8%
.
This is a lower level than that of April, when the indicator climbed 4.1% but higher than the forecasts that the consulting firms had been having.
Food,
gasoline, housing, communications and prepaid expenses
were the items that most pulled last month's inflationary data.
With this forecast,
the first five months of the year would accumulate an increase of 22%
and 47% if the interannual comparison is made.
Private consulting firms estimated that retail inflation
was 3.6%
during May.
And for the following months they project a downward trend in monthly inflation, according to the Market Expectations Survey (REM) carried out by the Central Bank.
Beyond the Central's monthly survey, among the consultants' estimates, the highest projections were made by the Latin American Economic Research Foundation (
FIEL
), which
estimated 4.7%, the increase in May
.
Eco Go calculated 4.2%;
Analytica, 3.8% and ACM, an average increase of 3.7%.
Meanwhile, below these levels, Ecolatina, forecast a rise of 3.4% and Orlando Ferreres & Asociados, 3.3%.
Also according to the Libertad y Progreso group, the inflationary increase in May averaged 3.4%.
According to the calculations of the Statistical Institute of Workers (IET), dependent on the Metropolitan University for Education and Work (UMET), “inflation slowed 3.7% in May (0.4 points below the April record ).
Thus, it
accumulated 20.9% so far this year and 49.4% in the last twelve months.
According to this measurement, inflation in May was driven in the first place by
the item “Housing” (+ 5.2%),
in a month where average electricity increases of 9% occurred in areas such as the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires.
In second place, the "
Communications" item became more expensive by 4.5%,
explained by increases in cell phone services of the same magnitude.
Health climbed 4%
, due to increases in prepayments.
Another basket that takes the pulse of prices is the one measured by Free Consumers.
In May, this set of 38 products registered
an average increase of 4.49%
and accumulates 23.88% since the beginning of the year.
Also in these surveys, vegetables led the largest increases in the period.
