The Central Bureau of Statistics today publishes data on building permits and construction starts in the corona year - data that largely explain the rise in housing prices in the past year.
In April 2020-March 2021, new construction starts recorded a sharp decrease of 10.2% compared to the same period last year and stood at 49,990 apartments.
The number of dwellings issued with building permits in April 2020-March 2021 decreased by about 3.9% compared to the corresponding period last year and stood at 53,640.

Almost a quarter of construction starts, in the "price per occupant" layout
About 23.9% of the apartments that began construction (about 11,950) were within the price per occupant, an increase of 1.6% compared to the previous 12 months.
The leading cities in April 2020-March 2021 at the beginning of construction are: Ashkelon, Tel Aviv-Yafo, Ramat Gan, Rishon Lezion, Jerusalem and Netanya.
Of all the dwellings in the new buildings that began construction in April 2020-March 2021, about 15.8% were built in buildings with 2-1 dwellings (single houses and semi-detached houses). In the Northern District the percentage of these dwellings is higher than in the other districts and stands at 40.3%, Tel Aviv percent of these apartments is only about 2.6%.
the figures also show that CBS figure of completions fell: in March 2021 - April 2020, the construction of approximately -47 020 apartments, a decrease of 4.4% versus the previous April 2019-March 2020 (approximately 49,180).
