After accusations of racism, Bahlsen renamed its “Africa” waffles to “Perpetum” and redesigned the packaging.

The cookie baker apparently also used the product relaunch to reduce the filling quantity per pack - drastically.

In the advertisements on the Internet, the grocers indicate a content of 97 grams.

Originally the packs contained 130 grams of the chocolate biscuits.

A decrease of almost 30 percent.

The price, on the other hand, only shrank to a lesser extent. The retail price in the company's own online shop is 1.69 euros. On other pages of mail order companies, however, 1.09 euros are often asked for. In stationary retail, on the other hand, according to the consumer advice center in Hamburg, the price of 1.99 euros at the time is very often still on the sign. "We think that's really bold, because according to the list of ingredients and nutritional values nothing has changed in the recipe," explains Armin Valet, who is responsible for the food and nutrition department.

From his point of view, it is particularly annoying that the pack is practically the same size.

The number of waffles is also almost identical.

"So at first glance everything seems to be fine." But on closer inspection, you can see that the individual waffles have become smaller.

"This is how you fool your customers."
