A lobby organization agitated against the green top candidate Baerbock with a Moses motif and was sharply criticized for it. The campaign platform Campact is now following suit, against Union candidate Laschet.

Annalena Baerbock as a female Moses, in her hands two stone tablets full of prohibitions: This advertising motif by the lobby organization Initiative Neue Soziale Marktwirtschaft (INSM) caused a lot of criticism - also because of the accusation of using anti-Semitic clichés.

Now the campaign platform Campact has taken up the motif for an advertisement against Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet.

"We don't need any climate blockers," says a picture of Laschet, who is holding two clipboards with alleged plans from the CDU and CSU.

These include »preventing wind turbines«, »hindering the expansion of public transport« and »endangering green jobs«.

According to Campact, the advertisement appeared in the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung", the "tageszeitung" (taz) and the "Süddeutsche Zeitung".

“Zeit online” rejected the publication as did SPIEGEL.de.

Why has Campact taken up the controversial motive and turned it against the Union instead of against the INSM itself?

"The political discourse derailed at a very early phase of the election campaign," said Christoph Bautz, managing director at Campact, when asked.

"The INSM ad was the sad highlight so far."

Bautz went on to say that they deliberately opted for »iconographic recognizability«.

The INSM ad, however, works with a degrading representation, serves anti-Semitic resentment and implies “demonstrably untrue allegations.

In contrast, the Campact ad is based on factual arguments and facts. "

The INSM is financed by the employers' association Gesamtmetall and supports market-liberal positions with advertising and PR.

Several days after the advertisement was published, she had rejected the charge of "following anti-Semitic conspiracy myths" and regretted it if personal or religious feelings had been injured.

Campact is financed by donations and membership fees, with which campaigns on topics such as climate protection or free trade are run on a regular basis.
