The American online sales giant is rubbing its hands.
Contested by several federations of traders, the "
prime days
" of Amazon recorded, in 2021, a "
record year
", explained on BFM Business this Monday morning Frédéric Duval, general manager of Amazon France.

"
We made double-digit growth
," said the businessman, without providing precise data. A good vintage, therefore, symbolized by two indices. First, "
40% of the books sent go to towns with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants
", an element interpreted by the director general as a symbol that his group irrigates the whole of France, "
not just the townspeople
". Then, Amazon offered 10 euros to its Prime subscribers who spent 10 euros with French SMEs during its “
prime days
”. In total, “
120,000 coupons
” were distributed through this operation, said Frédéric Duval.
This year,
Amazon's
“
prime days
” were strongly contested by traditional merchants. “
By launching its promotions just before the start of the sales, the web giant seeks to capture a maximum of customers and purchasing power before consumers are allowed to take advantage of the sales at their merchants. Consequence: this capture will greatly cancel the effect of sales expected by physical stores
, “regretted several federations in a press release.
Put under pressure, including by the executive, the group had finally refused to postpone its commercial operation after the sales.
"
This means that companies like Amazon or other pure players are exempt from any obligation, while they weigh on traders in France
", regretted Jean-Pierre Lehmann, President of the National Federation of City Centers "
Vitrines de France
" (FNCV).
In the United States, the commercial operation was also a resounding success: according to data provided by the Adobe Digital Economy Index, the total sales made during the two days of the Amazon “Prime Day” promotional operation amounted to $ 11 billion.
Andy Jassy "
will take us on a new adventure
"
Amazon remains attentive to the changes affecting international taxation discussed at the OECD.
"
All this is still in the making
", commented the French representative of the group, particularly concerned by the upcoming reform.
“
We have always said that discussions should be carried out at the international level.
We are waiting, we will see how it all unfolds and we will apply the rules when they are translated into law,
”he noted.
The American group is now entering a new phase in its history, with the official arrival at the reins of the company from Andy Jessy. "
I fully support the decision of Jeff [Bezos, editor's note] to withdraw,
" said Frédéric Duval. The new boss is a "
seasoned leader
", especially in the cloud, and he will take Amazon "
on a new adventure
", greeted the French leader.
