The historic Toyota plant in Onnaing (North) may be 98% robotic, the workers - women and men - black t-shirt, pants and cap, are busy on the Toyota Yaris assembly line. (the 4th generation) and Yaris Cross, the brand new SUV that the French factory is the only one to manufacture in the world.
This vehicle has been off the production line for three days.
Every now and then a somewhat mechanical melody sounds, drowning out the background noise of the factory.
“The production agents activate this signal to say that they have encountered a problem and that they need support,”
explains Franck Cherfy, engineering and project manager at the plant.

This interrupts the assembly process, which Toyota encourages, to prevent the problem from spilling over to the entire line.
A team of around 70 people, dressed in fluorescent chasubles, is mobilized to come to the aid of the “production agents” during this running-in period.
