Opel will be 100% electric in Europe by 2028, one of the most ambitious dates in the automotive world, its director Michael Lohscheller announced Thursday at a press conference.

The German brand of the Stellantis automotive group (PSA-Fiat-Chrysler), which had significantly reduced its range in recent years, is relaunching itself with an increasingly electrified range.
100% electric pioneer
On the side of its competitors, the Volkswagen group intends to achieve an electric share in its European sales of 60% by 2030 and 50% in total.
Its high-end brand Audi will stop producing cars equipped with traditional combustion engines by 2033. Jaguar has announced that its cars will be 100% electric by 2025. Ford or Volvo are targeting 2030 to withdraw gasoline engines or diesel from their offer in Europe.
Opel also intends to launch a 100% electric offer in China, where Stellantis has recorded very low sales, its director announced Thursday.
To boost its image, the lightning brand has also promised a battery version of its 1970s sports car, the Manta, for the “mid-decade”.
