This concerns "
the movements of passengers aged 11 and over, who do not have a complete vaccination schedule
", further specifies the prefecture.
This decision, announced on Tuesday by the prefect of Martinique, Stanislas Cazelles, and confirmed Wednesday by that of Guadeloupe, Alexandre Rochatte, comes following "
the deterioration of the health situation in Martinique
" and "
at the risk of spreading the virus and of its variants between the territories
”.
In one week, from June 28 to July 4, the number of positive coronavirus cases quadrupled in Martinique (410 positive cases, against 110 the previous week), while the situation in Guadeloupe, deconfined later, is stable to a hundred new cases per week.
In the archipelago, the vaccination rate (23.3% of those over 18 and 2.3% of those under 18 as of July 7) is slowly increasing, and the authorities are calling on the population every week to be vaccinated.
Emmanuel Macron is due to speak on Monday in the face of the deterioration of the health situation due to the Delta variant, while certain measures are being examined to speed up vaccination.
