Pharmaceutical companies BioNTech and Pfizer announced on Wednesday that the Biovac group would carry out a production stage of their vaccine against Covid-19 in South Africa from early 2022, a first on the continent.

The companies have "
signed a letter of intent
" with Biovac that will deliver up to 100 million doses per year to African countries. The transfer of technologies and the installation of the machines necessary for bottling, the last stage of manufacture, will start "
immediately
", according to a press release.
