The electric car pioneer Tesla wants to make its fast charging stations accessible for electric vehicles (EV) from other manufacturers.

"We'll open our Supercharger network to other EVs later this year," said CEO Elon Musk.

Tesla's network of more than 25,000 charging stations around the world had given the company a competitive edge in the industry's race for supremacy in the fast-charging standard.

Other manufacturers are now cooperating for their own charging networks or investing in startups.

Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) recently said that he was trying to convince Tesla to open up its charging stations to other manufacturers.

In the United States, President Joe Biden stood behind a legislative initiative at the end of last month, according to which around $ 7.5 billion should flow into charging stations and other infrastructure for electric cars.
