Audit firms called to order by the British authorities

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC), the UK's accounting regulator, has just castigated KPMG for its audits, despite several calls to order in previous years.

In February, Boris Johnson's government pledged to toughen the rules and reduce the power of the “big four” (Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PWC), to avoid conflicts of interest.

He has just completed a broad consultation aimed at instituting more extensive legislation.

In this context, the FRC should be replaced by a new body with enhanced powers.
