2021-07-26T17:31:01.869Z

An engineer from SNCF Réseau found himself trapped under the rubble while working on the site of two RER tracks.

In the aftermath of the Massy-Palaiseau (Essonne) tragedy which cost the life of an employee, the investigation continues. The victim, an engineer from SNCF Réseau, was 55 years old. The man died this Sunday, following a landslide on a construction site "

at the junction of the RER B and C and the TGV line

" in Massy Palaiseau, as specified by the president of the departmental council of Essonne, François Durovray. The prosecutor of Évry, Caroline Nisand, was in charge of the judicial investigation opened following the incident. This Monday, she decided to seize an examining magistrate, the case being complicated by "

the number of companies intervening

" on the spot, she indicates to

At the start of the week, the emergency services were activated on site to find the body of the victim of this accident, an engineer from SNCF Réseau, fatally trapped in the debris around 4 p.m. the day before.

But these research operations were temporarily interrupted in order to secure the site and to avoid new landslides, "

if other flaws were observed

", further specifies the prosecutor.

At this point, the victim's body could not be recovered.

The causes of the landslide also remain mysterious. SNCF Réseau and RATP were carrying out work to replace two railway bridges located in the town of Massy at the site of the accident: the Chartres bridge and the Gallardon bridge, specifies SNCF Réseau. "

The causes of the subsidence of the land are not yet known (weather, geology, works, etc.),

" adds the group, which indicates that it has also opened an internal investigation following this accident.

Many railway unions were moved by this accident and called for shedding light on the matter. "

Priority must be given to the search for the body,

" said

Bruno Poncet, federal secretary of the SUD Rail union

, to

Le Figaro

. "

The railway family is once again in mourning

", after this "

tragic accident

", regrets in a press release the CGT-Cheminots, whose "

first thoughts go to the family and relatives of the victim

". The union recalls that "

the railway environment is dangerous

" and that "

safety must remain an absolute priority

". The Railway Unsa has called for shedding light on this incident "

tragic

”.

Return to normal traffic

This accident put the TGVs which were supposed to circulate yesterday between the Paris Montparnasse station and the south-west of France to a standstill for a few hours.

From Sunday evening, traffic was able to resume almost normally on all lines.

The SNCF noted "

very few reductions

" Monday morning: a train for Poitiers from Paris, whose travelers were "

postponed

" in a train to Bordeaux, as well as "

some small reductions from the provinces time

" that the traffic returns to normal.

At Bordeaux train station, early in the morning, many people were waiting, noted an AFP journalist. An Ouigo train which was to leave a little before 9 a.m. was 1 hour and 10 minutes late, another at 10 a.m. had been canceled. And in the Paris-Bordeaux / Toulouse direction, all the trains were late, from 30 minutes to over an hour. However, the traffic seemed to flow from 11 a.m. onwards.
