The Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform estimated the production of the peach crop in Syria this season at more than 48 thousand tons.
The head of the horticulture department at the Ministry of Agriculture, Engineer Ali Al-Dahouri, said in a statement to SANA that the estimates of the peach crop production this season were distributed between 45,754 irrigated tons and 2,465 tons rainfed.
Al-Dahuri explained that the areas planted with peach trees amounted to 5072 hectares, with about 2.1 million trees planted, most of them in the governorates of Damascus countryside with an area of 2056 hectares and Hama with an area of 1910 hectares, pointing out that production last year amounted to 48,031 tons.
The peach is one of the most important summer fruits in Syria, as it is cultivated at an altitude of 500 meters to 1200 meters.
