In a new attempt to reactivate the circulation of travelers through the country, the Government is giving the final stitches to the
relaunch of the PreTravel system, which will be announced in mid-August.
This Tuesday, Minister Matías Lammens met with businessmen from the sector, including the Argentine Chamber of Tourism (CAT) to define some issues inherent to the program that proposes to return 50% of tourist consumption in the country in credits.
According to Lammens, in journalistic statements from the Casa Rosada, official expectations point to the new version of the Pre-trip
doubling the number of travelers in the first edition, which was more than 600 thousand.
The estimate has to do with a greater opening of the market compared to last year, when the pandemic hit the sector hard. In this sense, today, the minister said in the Government they were "very happy" with the development of the winter season and pointed out that "
in the first week more than 2 million people circulated" in different localities.
He noted that this "provides a breath of fresh air to the sector" and allows him to envision that we will have "the best summer season in recent years," he predicted.
In the new version of the Pre-Trip, the refund of 50% of the expenses will be similar to that of the previous edition: when the tourist presents the invoices for consumption before tourist providers registered in the Program (accommodation, travel agencies, transport or excursions , for example)
receives a credit equal to 50% of everything you spent.
The reimbursement of the money is made through a card or electronic wallet of the Banco Nación that can then be used to buy new tourist services, in hotels or gastronomy, among others. In this second version of the official program,
the money can be used from December of this year,
that is, one more month of the summer season. That is a difference from the previous program. In addition, in this new edition, the program will also have more funds: last year, $ 15 billion were allocated.
Regarding the meeting between the Minister of Tourism and the CAT, sources from the ministry also added that
other issues were addressed, in
addition to the technical issues involved in Pre-trip preparations such as coordination with the agencies and the registration of providers, among other things. . "According to our estimates,
to the 13,000 companies that joined the program last year, another 3,000 could be added
,
" said
the source.
Another of the issues addressed at the meeting, in which the head of the CAT, Gustavo Hani, participated, was
the launch of the International Tourism Fair (FIT) scheduled for tomorrow at a press conference
that will take place in the auditorium of the ministry , in Suipacha at 1100. This fair will take place between December 4 and 7. It is the most important in the sector and.
one of the first to be carried out after the pandemic.
Finally, at the meeting between Lammens and CAT,
a review of the winter vacation numbers
was made
.
According to the same official sources, “the balance so far is very good, even in the critical context of the health issue.
But we see that, as the cases of Covid decrease, the level of occupancy in the different tourist spots is increasing, "he said.
