In the last 50 years, the life expectancy of human beings
grew by 14 years
, according to data from
the World Bank
.
Thus, the last decade started with optimism about the future of health, until
Covid 19 appeared
.
Science and technology gave a quick response like never before.
But today it is necessary to
rethink the scenario.
That is the topic that will be discussed at the table
"The Challenge of Health"
, organized by
Clarín
and that will be held this Monday. The Minister of Health of the City,
Fernán Quirós
, will participate together with
Eduardo López
(infectologist, member of the Advisory Council of the Nation on Covid 19),
Luis Fontana
(General Director of OSDE),
Virginia Ungar
(psychoanalyst) and
Daniel Londero
(Head from Bayer Pharmaceuticals for Conosur).
The event is part of the cycle
"The coming world"
, 10 dialogues between company presidents, officials, social references, renowned experts and entrepreneurs, led by
Clarín
journalists
.
They are debates that seek to detect the
keys
to the future, analyze how the
trends
that are insinuated today will impact the reality of the coming years.
The debate "The Health Challenge"
will be broadcast live on Monday at 11 am
in streaming on the
Clarín.com
page
.
The contents will be shared simultaneously on social networks and later on the
website
and the
printed edition
of the newspaper.
The cycle has the main support of
Banco Macro, OSDE, DESA
and the
Government of the City of Buenos Aires
.
And also with the accompaniment of
Telecom
and
Afarte
, in addition to
Bayer
and
Soaljo
.
In Argentina there are already more than
5 million people infected by Covid 19
, and
more than 107,000 deaths
from the disease.
Last year, this virus was the cause of
19.3% of hospitalizations
in the City of Buenos Aires.

The
vaccine
appeared as the only hope in the face of the health crisis.
Pharmaceutical companies responded with unprecedented speed.
The
Argentina Science
collaborated with extensive
field studies
on the feasibility of such vaccines.
With almost 25 million Argentines inoculated, the debate focused on the application of the
second dose
, which only reaches
less than a third
of those people.
The pandemic also brought the debate on health
resources
to the
table
. The 2021 Budget dedicated
5% of public spending
to the sector
, below the funds earmarked for
energy
or
transportation
subsidies
, for example. And while
almost half
of the patients are cared for through a
social work
,
28% do so through private medicine
, and
18% in the public system
.
That agenda is the one that the panelists will debate: Fernán Quirós, Minister of Health of the City of Buenos Aires, is a Doctor with a
Diploma of Honor
from the
UBA
, specialized in Internal Medicine, he has served as Medical Vice Director of Strategic Planning of
the Italian Hospital
and as Professor and Head of the Department of Human Physiology of the University Institute of that hospital.

Virginia Ungar is a psychoanalyst doctor, titular member with a teaching function of the
Buenos Aires Psychoanalytic Association
(APdeBA).

Konex Platinum Award
in Psychoanalysis (2016).
And he has just left the
presidency
of the International Psychoanalytic Association, which he held since 2017.
