The takeover of 95 Maxi Toys stores in France by the King Jouet group was authorized Thursday by the Competition Authority, subject to the sale of three points of sale.
King Jouet, founded by the Gueydon family and then developed with the Italian Prenatal Retail Group, notified the Competition Authority in July 2020 of its plan to acquire these 95 Maxi Toys stores in France.

The two brands, with nearly 350 stores, "will
represent a turnover under the banner of around 400 million euros and more than 10% of the French toy market
", according to Maxi Toys, a Belgian group weakened by several changes of 'shareholders.
King Jouet also took over Maxi Toys stores in Switzerland and Belgium.
Maintaining sufficient competition
While in almost all of the areas concerned in France, “
consumers will continue to benefit from sufficient alternative offers to those of King Jouet and Maxi Toys
”, the Authority has nevertheless identified competitive risks in the catchment area of three stores. in Meurthe-et-Moselle, in Isère and in the Var, she explains in a press release.

The King Jouet group has therefore undertaken to sell the Maxi Toys stores located in these areas to one or more of its competitors in order to "
guarantee the maintenance of sufficient competition and protect the interests of consumers
".
King Jouet currently has more than 250 points of sale in France.
