Inflation in France slowed by 1.2% over one year

While the price of food products has remained stable, INSEE confirms an increase in the prices of services and energy.


The rise in consumer prices in France slowed in July to 1.2% over one year, INSEE reported on Friday, confirming the provisional figures published two weeks ago.

Over one month, inflation was 0.1%, said the National Institute of Statistics.

While inflation rose to 1.5% year-on-year in June, July was marked by summer sales that were shifted to allow traders to take advantage of the upturn in consumption after the last lockdown .

Harmonized consumer price index increases in July

Clothing and footwear prices thus fell 7.1% over one year.

Those for all manufactured goods fell 1.1%, while those for services rose 0.6%, with rents, water and household refuse collection increasing 1.1%.

Energy prices saw their increase over one year accelerate compared to June, going from 10.9% to 12.3% in July, the cost of natural and city gas soaring by 27, 8%, against an increase still limited to 16.7% in June.

Food products remained almost stable, with a small increase of 0.1% over the year and over the month.

Core inflation, an indicator that gives an idea of ​​the likely evolution of prices in the coming months, fell to 0.4% year-on-year in July from 1.1% in June.

Finally, the harmonized consumer price index (HICP), which serves as a basis for comparison at European level, increased by 1.5% over one year in July, after 1.9% in June.

Over one month, the HICP fell to 0.1% in July, against 0.2% the previous month.
