Climate protection measures: Government doubles subsidies within three years

2021-08-18T11:04:04.980Z

The main reason is funding for climate and environmental protection: The federal government is massively increasing state subsidies - from 24.6 billion euros to 47.2 billion euros in just three years.

The federal government wants to set incentives for business and consumers with financial aid and tax breaks - and that costs a lot.

The volume of subsidies will rise to 47.2 billion euros by 2022, according to the new subsidy report.

In 2019 it was only 24.6 billion euros.

The Federal Ministry of Finance announced that the main reason for the increase was funding for more climate and environmental protection.

"The subsidy policy is a central component of the future-oriented financial policy of the federal government," it said.

"By setting clear priorities, the subsidy policy measures provide important impetus to promote climate and environmental protection, to strengthen the future and innovative capacity of the economy, to cope with the economic consequences of the pandemic and to promote social equality."

Specifically, a large part of the increase between 2019 and 2022 can be traced back to resolutions of the federal government that are related to the achievement of the 2030 climate targets and the 2022 immediate climate protection program.

There are new subsidies, among other things, for energy-efficient buildings, the purchase of electric cars and grants for the purchase of buses and commercial vehicles with climate-friendly drives.

The charging infrastructure is also subsidized.

In addition, there are tax advantages for research-based companies, funds for the expansion of mobile networks and social housing.
