After many months with the numbers in the red,

the hotel, commercial and gastronomic sectors recovered a certain share of optimism

after a year and a half of pandemic.

According to the survey of the Argentine Chamber of Medium Enterprises (CAME), in the four days prior to the

portable

holiday of August 17,

2,215,570 tourists directly spent $ 5,430 million in traditional tourist places.

In total, according to the entity, 714,700 tourists traveled,

2.1% more

than in the same long weekend of 2019 (this comparison base was taken since last year there was no tourist opening on this date due to the quarantine).

Each one averaged a

daily expense of $ 2,308

with an average stay of 2.3 days and a direct outlay of $ 3,793.9 million

, 61% more than in 2019.

Added to this are the 1,500,870 hikers who traveled from one city to another to spend the day with an average outlay of $ 1,090 per capita.

In this case, it is estimated that they

spent $ 1,636 million directly.

"There was a lot of intra-family travel, to visit links or

share celebrations for Children's Day.

The date was also noted in the gastronomic demand," CAME said in a statement.

Northern Argentina ended up being one of the busiest regions, with 100% occupancy levels in some cities.

The South region, on the other hand, was affected by the cancellation of flights.

Although this long weekend, which appears in the annual calendar after the winter holidays, tends to report a more moderate movement, the results - in several tourist destinations -

exceeded expectations,

 the tourism referents coincide.

According to Gustavo Hani, president of the Argentine Chamber of Tourism (CAT), “this long weekend means one more step that we are taking for the reactivation.

It is very important because it tells us that

confidence by traveling is being restored

.

And the demand continues to rise, "he said.

The exception is in the hotels of the city of Buenos Aires, which continue to maintain critical levels and will take time to reactivate, they recognize in the CAT.

Instead,

“from the gastronomy a light of hope is perceived.

There was a contained demand, and now with a greater degree of openness, we see that it is beginning to improve, ”explained Camilo Suárez, president of CAT Baires.

Another characteristic of the weekend was

the trend of proximity trips to destinations with a strong imprint of nature and active tourism

.

Along the same lines, provinces such as Entre Ríos, with a thermal tourism proposal, also benefited, according to the entity.

Among the typical winter destinations, for those who opt for snow,

Ushuaia stood out for its occupancy levels

.

"We are having a large tourist movement since mid-July and we have excellent prospects for the remainder of August," said Ángel Brisighelli, president of the Ushuaia Chamber of Tourism.

“Little by little we are going back to work, making up for lost time.

This is spoken in all provinces and in each destination.

This long weekend made it clear that we can move on.

And with

tools like Pre-Trip,

we understand that we are on the right track for the summer holidays ”, concluded Hani.

From CAME they also added that another indicator of tourist activity last weekend was the heavy

traffic

that became evident on Friday.

This exodus of motorists led to the collapse of several of the access points to the city.
