In this virtual era, with the strong explosion that it still had from the coronavirus pandemic, hacking is the order of the day.

Cryptocurrency hacking even more so.

In the last hours, the virtual theft suffered by

the Japanese platform Liquid became known, which denounced a hacker attack and is now trying to recover almost US $ 100 million in stolen assets.

This cybercrime occurs

a week after the North American platform Poly Network

was stripped of more than US $ 600 million.

The thief, named Mr. White Hat, returned a significant part of the amount.

According to Elliptic, a London-based company that helps track stolen cryptocurrencies, "just over $ 97 million worth of crypto was received into accounts identified by Liquid as belonging to the thief."

Tokyo-based company Liquid said in a statement Thursday that it had

"detected unauthorized access to some of the cryptocurrency wallets it manages."

Because of this, they stopped all withdrawals, although they kept fiduciary withdrawals and deposits.

Among the stolen funds, 45 million were recorded in ethereum tokens, according to Engadget.

"Our investigators are helping Liquid track down the stolen funds

," Elliptic added in a blog post.

The Japanese platform, created by Tam Chau, continues to investigate to find the whereabouts of the 97 million dollars with crypto assets.

"The impact analysis is ongoing and subject to change," he said.

Of the 97 million stolen, about 17 million ETC-20 assets were frozen

thanks to the assistance of the crypto community and other exchanges.

Meanwhile, 69 different crypto assets were embezzled and sent to other networks.

The platform explains that assets placed in Liquid Earn are not affected.

"During this difficult period

,

"

notes the company on the blog, "we appreciate the support of our customers, other exchanges, security experts and the crypto community at large."

"Liquid will continue to do everything in its power to mitigate the impact

of this incident and restore full service as soon as possible," he stressed.
