In preparation for returning to school we are exposed to a lot of surveys: Where can we purchase the best and most orthopedic school bag?

How much will the pencil case cost us in its contents - and where to find affordable uniform shirts.

Only one statistic is left aside - and this is something that children take with them every day at school, just like the schoolbag and the writing utensils.

This refers to food, usually sandwiches, that are supposed to feed our children from early morning until late afternoon.

The issue of food in school is addressed, but it is usually stopped at the dieters' tips stage: more cheese, lean pastrami, vegetables and fruits - and less sweet spreads.

It's just that all this health, which of course we will not save for our children, is entirely at our expense.

That is - to the cost of trips, classes, activities, books and study aids - from the bag to the computer, should also be added a regular monthly expense that accompanies the parents from the first day of school until the big holiday.

On a day of routine schooling it is advisable to start the morning with a light meal at home, to maintain a normal level of concentration until 10:00.

Also, in the afternoon, it is recommended to eat a larger, hot and nutritious meal at home.

Once it was possible to settle for one sandwich for a break of ten, but in recent years, a trend of extending the school day has been established, in order to make it easier for working parents.

A school day that ends in the late afternoon requires thinking about feeding the children even after 10:00, when the children eat the main meal of the morning, so there is another break of "refueling" with another sandwich or fruit towards 12:00.

It is recommended that every meal of ten include: a portion of cereals, a portion rich in protein, vegetables, fruit and water.

No treats

It is recommended that every meal of ten include: a portion of cereals, a portion rich in protein, vegetables, fruit and water.

We decided to check out what it would cost us to send two children to school with a healthy diet and adequate, but fairly basic, ie without all sorts of treats, snacks, fruit, specialty, yogurt drinks and other things with which to pamper the kids, but we focused on the basic elements only.

All other attachment , From improved bread to special spreads will of course increase family spending.

Upgraded menu suggestion

We turned to naturopath Moran Strum, asked to upgrade the weekly menu we put together, emphasize balance, health and creativity without significantly exceeding the budget, that is, to get out of the box, but stay in the frame ...

Strum built a weekly menu for us that will provide all the food for the children And will remain balanced, also budgetary:

Out of the box but within budget

Sunday: A sandwich of two slices of bread with a teaspoon of tahini spread and an omelet of two eggs, along with a sliced cucumber and 30 grams of grape cluster.

Monday: Spelled pita flour with a tablespoon of chickpea spread, 4 Tinkerbell peppers (the colorful ones) with a small apple.

Tuesday: A 3% cup of yogurt with a natural flavor (Strum recommends Danone Pro 12 grams of protein) with 3 tablespoons of quality granola on the side, a unit of a small peach and a teaspoon to eat.

Wednesday: 1 unit of tortilla with a tablespoon of ricotta cheese (rich in quality protein) or feta cheese to spread with finely sliced pickles and 3 cherry tomatoes along with a bag of cuttings.

Thursday: 3 "light" units or a personal bag of crackers together with a cup in a custom package (reduced) of a 5% fat cottage, along with 5 cherry tomatoes (recommended "chocolate" type rich in antioxidants called lycopene), a unit of sliced cucumber and a spoon For application.

Friday: Pita made from spelled or rye flour with a tablespoon of chocolate spread (once a week allowed to celebrate) consisting mainly of nuts (there are lots of these in the markets) with a small banana unit and 5 units of almonds or walnuts.

Why not every Friday?

Regarding a sweet sandwich on Friday that also appears on Moran Strum's menu, the naturopathic explanation: "Eating sugars can impair the quality and ability of attention and concentration, so we prefer to avoid eating them on long school days. Usually Friday is a short school day. "Chocolate can be a regular and sweet habit without compromising the quality of learning."
