Rail travel only for vaccinated, convalescent and tested people - that was what the federal government was considering. According to information from the "Bild" newspaper, however, the plan is off the table, also out of consideration for the staff.

France has already introduced a similar regulation.

In Germany, however, there will be no restrictions for train travelers due to the rising corona numbers, according to a media report.

The “3G rule” in long-distance trains proposed by the federal government is therefore about to be terminated.

According to the regulation, only vaccinated, recovered and tested people were allowed to travel by train.

The "Bild" newspaper reported in its Monday edition that the result of the inspection procedure led by Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) was that the measures were "not feasible".

According to Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU), the topic is off the table.

He said on Sunday on “Bild TV”: “I don't see it coming.” This was also the result of an examination by the specialist departments that Scheuer had commissioned.

The question was whether such a rule had a legal basis, whether it was practicable and feasible and whether it was infectiously necessary.

According to »Bild«, the ministries for transport, health and the interior were unanimously opposed to the government's plan.

In the SPD-led Ministry of Justice there were also concerns about a “3G obligation” on trains.

The main reason was the question of monitoring compliance.

Union warned of overloading the train crew

Klaus-Dieter Hommel, Chairman of the Railway and Transport Union (EVG), told the »Bild«: »Our arguments were obviously taken into account - and thus an unreasonable burden on the train staff prevented.« increasing number of attacks on employees noted.

According to a representative survey by the opinion research institute Civey on behalf of the »Handelsblatt«, the »3G regulation« met with approval from almost two-thirds of citizens in view of the increasing number of corona cases.

At the end of the last few weeks, government spokesman Steffen Seibert had named France as a model for a railway regulation, where the obligation to provide evidence already applies to long-distance traffic.

In Germany, the »3G rule« has so far only existed on international flights and in some areas of public life - such as going to restaurants indoors.
