The assertion of the candidate for deputy for the Frente de Todos

Victoria Tolosa Paz

that the airline LATAM not only left Argentina

but several countries in the region

was

denied

by the union that groups the former workers of this airline, which closed its subsidiary in July of last year.

"The accountant Tolosa Paz addressed an issue of which she is obviously unaware. LATAM only left Argentina. Its other subsidiaries continued to be reduced and today they are slowly beginning to normalize their services," said

Fernán Aras

, who heads the

Union of Pilots Aviators of LATAM

(UPAL). Aras added, in reference to the Chilean and Brazilian capital airline subsidiaries: "They are

reincorporating personnel

and adjusting their operations to the new reality. Clearly the candidate

hides this

so that it is not evident that what happened

was their fault. Government

".

On June 17, 2020, LATAM Airlines announced the closure of its subsidiary LATAM Argentina, in the midst of a pandemic, just three weeks after requesting its bankruptcy in the United States.

But despite its delicate financial situation and having ten subsidiaries throughout the continent, the only one where it decided to close all its operations was in Argentina.

Over the past year, LATAM Argentina compensated almost 90% of its 1,700 employees, including all of its pilots grouped in UPAL.

Only 193 did not accept the withdrawal and today they demand that the Argentine State take charge of their situation, since the company closed its offices and returned the last planes it had in the country with local registration in May.

The 10 subsidiaries that the airline has in other countries

were not closed

, although there

were layoffs and salary reductions

.

But during an interview with the

BDA

television program

, Tolosa Paz assured that the one in Argentina

had been one more

of the supposedly

numerous subsidiaries

closed by LATAM.

“Airlines left in Argentina and in other countries.

The Chilean airline LAN left Argentina, it left Peru, it left Ecuador, it left Colombia

.

The Frente de Todos does not govern there, "declared the candidate for Buenos Aires deputy for the Frente de Todos.

The reply came through a UPAL statement.

"The subsidiaries LATAM Chile, LATAM Cargo, LATAM Express, LATAM Peru, LATAM Colombia, LATAM Cargo Colombia, LATAM Ecuador, LATAM Brazil, LATAM Cargo Brazil and LATAM Paraguay are in the process of normalization," said the union.

"Unfortunately, the situation in Argentina was totally different

. While in other countries the governments worked together with the companies to preserve as much as possible the sources of work in an activity in total crisis here, in our country (...) they achieved the Latam's departure from Argentina, a purely ideological event, with the consequent loss of 1,715 qualified jobs, "the UPAL statement added.

Speaking to the specialized site

AeroMarket

, Fernán Aras remarked: "I am convinced that if they had allowed us to negotiate in the crisis, today

we could be flying and reincorporating the personnel

that had been laid off or suspended. The government and the unions with legal status chose the form more direct of getting rid of LATAM ".
