It was a special summer for Israel. For over two weeks, an entire country has been thrilled by leading women such as Linoy Ashram, Avishag Samberg and other fine athletes, who proudly represented us at the Tokyo Olympics.

Fortunately, we live in a world where female empowerment and the importance that can be given to promoting gender equality are becoming clear in many places and are being felt more and more in the field.

In culture, in sports and also in academic institutions, it is now understood that proper integration, in which women are placed in key positions alongside men, creates a healthier, more positive and attentive atmosphere, and helps progress on the right track, and that unlike stigmas, gender equality and female empowerment Complement each other.

How do we know? Because we went out to check. where? At the Safed Academic College, where the brilliant and high-quality female power is in leadership positions, both academically and humanly, socially and administratively. Let's find out how.

As mentioned, one of the characteristics of the Safed Academic College is multiculturalism.

Female students from all walks of life and from all walks of life fill the campus.

This is also evident when examining the backgrounds of three key figures in the college with whom we spoke: Dr. Hadar Neumann, head of the Research Authority and a member of the college board, Dr. Amira Osman, head of the nursing department, and Dorit Partovi, dean of the college students and board member.

The dean who grew up out of love for the land and the Torah, and broke glass ceilings

If you put marks on the map, you will have a hard time finding a unifying line that characterizes the background from which the three of them came to the senior positions in the college, which they reached, but that is exactly what is unique about the story.

For example, Partobi says that she is a "Galilee soul from the moment she was born." Her family was one of the founders of the Meron religious moshav, after her grandparents survived the Holocaust and came from Hungary. In Meron, she received a Zionist-religious education for the love of the land, the people and the Torah of Israel, and worked within the framework of the Bnei Akiva youth movement, whether in her moshav, and later also in the Aliya neighborhood in Kfar Saba.

When she returned to the Galilee, the buds of leadership could already be seen in Partovi, who served, among other things, as a coordinator in all Bnei Akiva branches in the Merom Hagalil Regional Council and after her undergraduate studies, also as Perach's Northern District Enrichment Coordinator and Safed Training Coordinator Israel.

from this background, her faith grew personal ability to influence.

This is how she came, more than 26 years ago (!) To the position of dean of students at the Safed Academic College.

"To the best of my knowledge, I was then the youngest student dean in Israel, and as far as I know, among the few women in a world that was mostly male," she recalls.

"But I found my place, and today I lead a team that is almost entirely female. I believe that institutions of higher education are the most significant milestone in shaping the image and future of the young, in Israel and in general, and in every field. Not only because of knowledge, but also , To challenge, explore and question and influence socially. "

The doctor who fell in love with the Galilee, and leads the research at the college

If Frtobi grown Smell roll ", as defined, which for Dr. Hadar Neumann was an acquired taste.

She studied at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, but came north from a desire to live and to live in the area.

Fortunately, her academic ambitions combined with reality.

" In recent years, "New possibilities opened up in the area, so I moved to the Galilee, did a postdoctoral fellowship in the Faculty of Medicine of Bar-Ilan University in Safed and became a lecturer at the Safed Academic College," she says in a conversation with Walla !.

"I can represent and promote in management issues and research topics, and in addition, I provide important and additional female representation."

Dr. Neumann currently teaches in four classes, associated with the college's health professions: nursing, physiotherapy, emergency medicine and medical laboratory sciences. However, she led her main revolution in a slightly different place.

" The discourse on the need to expand the research authority at the college, "says Dr. Neumann, who became the first in the history of the Safed Academic College, which holds the position of head of the research authority at the college, which consolidates and coordinates research information in the organization.

How noticeable is the change in the field?

In recent months, the Research Authority, under its leadership, has led an annual research day, with more than 20 researchers from the college, with an emphasis on significant and current research on the Corona virus.

The research day included workshops, which provided new tools for female and male researchers. In addition, the Authority also regularly supports the four research centers of the College.

"We expose researchers to readers' voices, help them write research funding applications, link them with researchers from other institutions and more," adds Dr. Neumann.

"My job is essentially managerial.

The research activity is the core of the academy in my eyes, and it is important to give researchers tools that will help them develop and be expressed on the main stages. "

The Dr. who returned from the United States and became the head of a department

This fascinating trio is completed by another researcher, who holds the title of Dr., Dr. Amira Osman.

In her case, too, the background is completely different, but the end point, Safed Academic College, is the same.

Dr. Osman was a practical nurse, completed two degrees at the Hebrew University, and worked for about a decade at Hadassah Hospitals in Jerusalem and Rambam in Haifa.

After several years of study in the United States, she joined the college as a senior lecturer in the Department of Nursing and thanks to her broad professional background in nursing, and her research on this and public health issues progressed up the ladder until about a year ago she was appointed head of the Department of Nursing.

"I feel great with having women in key positions. It's very prominent in our college and also very welcome."

"I entered the position at a very challenging time, within the Corona period. This is a period that requires creativity in problem solving, a quick transition from frontal teaching to online teaching and many other things, but we take care of everything," she explains in a conversation we had with her.

Values, style and humanity

So there are interesting and unique backgrounds, and fascinating leadership today at Safed Academic College is also the lot of these three women, but how is all this expressed in practice?

Partobi explains: "We try to influence the figure of the graduate, not only in the professional sense but also in the value sense. This is reflected in the activities and events that connect our students and all groups in the population - soldiers, youth and adults. We try to be involved everywhere, organizers We take care of leadership workshops and job placement activities through the special career center, which we have opened and which we operate. "Cultural, suitable for every student."

"I lead a team that is almost entirely female. There is no doubt that the female spirit in the college is felt."

"In terms of management style, of course there are differences between men and women," Dr. Osman expands on the subject. "My way of managing, for example, is very collaborative.

I feel great with having women in key positions, it is very prominent in our college and also very welcome.

Women and men have similar capabilities, but sometimes different features, such as cognitive flexibility and the bride, so good that we have a voice and the power to influence. "

Dr. Neumann, to hold office, as mentioned, even as the college administration, sees this situation could present aspect further thought and proper representation .

"By virtue of my position as head of the Research Authority, I can represent and promote management research issues and topics, and in addition, I provide important and additional female representation. I feel as a woman I bring a different point of view. We know today that the decision-making process for men and women is different. But there is a difference in strategies and ways of thinking and acting. "I believe there are differences in thinking, things that women can provide, in aspects that we may not even always be aware of, in ways to examine a situation or some systemic dilemma. Quite a few college researchers have already approached me and told me that female representation is significant for them."

The male and female students see us and meet with us all the time, "concludes Partobi," so I hope it gives them and them the ability to believe in themselves and move forward.

There is no doubt that the female spirit in college is felt.

Women provide something different to the managerial process, mental flexibility.

Something a little softer and holistic.

It is an added value that organizations with women in management, such as the Safed Academic College, certainly enjoy.

In our case as a college, the students also benefit from it, and that is the most important thing, "concluded Partovi.
