A confidante of the former Wirecard board member Jan Marsalek, who went into hiding, is said to have been arrested in Singapore, reports the state newspaper "The Straits Times".
The man is 46-year-old Henry O'Sullivan, who is the backer of several alleged Wirecard partner companies in Asia.
On Wednesday, O'Sullivan was heard in a district court in Singapore and a bail was denied.
According to the report, he is accused of forging a document in one case.
O'Sullivan allegedly instigated the Singapore-based Citadelle company in 2016 to forge a balance confirmation.
This document was used to simulate Wirecard assets in an alleged trust account.
Wirecard filed for bankruptcy at the end of June 2020, and the payment service provider is said to have falsified balance sheets for years.
A total of 1.9 billion euros, which should be in trust accounts in Asia, cannot be found.
The Wirecard executive suite is said to have booked billions in bogus transactions over the years in order to keep the company afloat and to swindle loans.
The former boss Markus Braun and two other ex-board members were arrested in July 2020.
Marsalek fled, he is wanted on an international arrest warrant.
Braun puts the responsibility on his former business partner Marsalek.
