According to a media report, the US electric car manufacturer Tesla can expect government funding of around 1.14 billion euros from a European battery cell program.
The funding from the Federal Ministry of Economics is ripe for approval, reports the »Tagesspiegel«.
The Federal Ministry and the Brandenburg Ministry of Economic Affairs did not comment on the report.
Tesla not only wants to build the first electric car factory in Europe in Grünheide near Berlin, but also wants to produce battery cells there on a large scale.
According to the report, this will involve 2,000 jobs.
At the beginning of the year, the EU Commission approved aid billions for the second time to support battery production in Europe.
Germany and eleven other EU countries can provide up to 2.9 billion euros in addition to make progress in electromobility.
Tesla in Brandenburg can also benefit from the funding.
Germany is coordinating the second battery program.
In Grünheide, the production of electric cars was originally supposed to start at the beginning of July, but Tesla is now aiming for the end of the year.
The company is currently building on the basis of preliminary permits, because the final decision on the environmental permit by the state of Brandenburg is still pending.
It is not yet known when the final approval will be given.
Up to 500,000 vehicles are expected to roll off the production line in Grünheide in Brandenburg every year.
