Collectors have a new object of desire, postmen are likely to struggle with ear loops: The Austrian Post has issued a special postage stamp made from the material and in the form of an FFP2 mask. The stamps with a value of 2.75 euros and a print run of 150,000 are said to be made from the original material of FFP2 masks - and look exactly the same. Two layers of fleece were embroidered in the form of an FFP2 mask and then cut out with a laser - the special stamp even has ear loops. Like conventional postage stamps, it can be used to frank letters.
"Postage stamps have always reflected the events of their time," the APA news agency quoted the Austrian post manager Georg Pölzl as saying.
"With the FFP2 special postage we would like to create a lasting memory that will stand for all the challenges we have to cope with as a result of the pandemic."
The mask postage stamps were made by a Vorarlberg company specializing in fabrics and embroidery.
"The gray embroidery emphasizes the characteristic details of the mask, such as the folds and the nose clip," it said.
The ear loops are also embroidered and sewn on in a complex process.
It is not the first time that Austrian Post has dealt with the corona pandemic when it comes to postage stamps.
Last year she had already issued a toilet paper stamp.
