These aid measures should allow the development of a greener mountain, by supporting, among other things, the diversification of tourist activities.

One hundred million euros more to recover from a white season and make the Auverge-Rhones-Alpes region

"the first sustainable mountain in Europe"

.

Laurent Wauquiez, LR president of the region, announced new aid measures, in addition to the emergency plan of 400 million euros presented in February.

"Austrians, Swiss and Italians have already implemented major plans for the future,"

notes Laurent Wauquiez.

In partnership with French professionals, this new plan represents 700 million to 1 billion euros of work.

The Covid recalled the economic importance of the mountain, which generates 7 billion in turnover and represents between 250,000 and 300,000 direct and indirect jobs

. "

Boost the summer season

For a greener mountain, the plan will finance

"hydrogen snow groomers, a low consumption electrical system, photovoltaic panels above the snow cannons."

Twenty million will be invested in

“valley ascension

urs” projects intended to relieve congestion on the roads leading to the resorts.

“It is the conception of the mountain of tomorrow. We want to avoid these processions of traffic jams and pollution from cars ”,

explains the chosen one.

Another fifteen million will support the diversification of tourist activities, as professionals can no longer bet everything on skiing.

The closure of the ski lifts this winter due to Covid has made sledging, hiking and snowshoeing a success.

Much remains to be done to boost the summer season (zip line, tree climbing, etc.).

Finally, for 10 million euros, the plan will help the real estate renovation of leisure accommodation and holiday centers. It is the Achilles heel of the mountain: too many apartments are closed all year round, too many young people no longer go to the mountains.

"There will be only one condition for the application of the mountain plan, you have to buy equipment made in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, I no longer want Chinese equipment, we have to bring employment back to our valleys,

insists Laurent Wauquiez.

Incentives are being explored to encourage the hiring of local seasonal workers rather than foreigners. ”
