The surprise abandonment of the renovation of the Gare du Nord announced Tuesday evening by the SNCF forced the government to come out of the woods.
France had committed to this infrastructure being radically overhauled by 2024, for the Olympic Games in Paris.
From 2023, for the Rugby World Cup, which will take place in France, the Eurostar terminal had to be refurbished.
In 2024, the other railway parts of the station were to be remodeled.
Even if the State is not on the front line in this affair, which first involves the SNCF and the Auchan Ceetrus property company, it could pay the price for public opinion.
And France risks being the object of mockery internationally for its inability to carry out a major project.
To clear customs, SNCF entirely blames Ceetrus, in charge of this renovation, which would be responsible for failure to meet deadlines and costs.
