Submarine crisis: the president of Naval Group breaks the silence

EXCLUSIVE - In an interview with Le Figaro, Pierre Éric Pommellet, assures us that the very morning of the termination of the contract, the Australian government "had accepted the offer from Naval Group which would have made it possible to initiate a new phase of the program".


On September 15 at 11 p.m., Joe Biden announced to everyone's surprise the conclusion of Aukus, a security pact in the Indo-Pacific zone between the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.

This partnership resulted in the termination of a record contract for an order for 12 submarines, signed with the French Naval Group.

- When were you informed of Australia's decision?



Pierre Éric POMMELLET.

- On Wednesday September 15th, we received a phone call from the Australian Ministry of Defense, which asked us to participate in an audio conference at 1:30 pm.

It was during this meeting that the ministry informed us of the termination for convenience of the contract.
