Carrefour trains 85,000 employees to say "yes" to customers in sign language

By 2022, each store must have at least one employee trained by the Regional Association for the Integration of the Deaf.


The Covid pandemic has made the lives of people who are deaf or hard of hearing more complex.

With the wearing of a mask, it is impossible to read the lips of the other person.

Made aware of this by one of its employees, Carrefour will develop the learning of sign language in its stores.

85,000 Carrefour employees will be encouraged to learn 10 words in sign language selected by the distributor: “hello”, “goodbye”, “yes”, “thank you”, “welcome to Carrefour”, “please”, “Follow me”, “everything is fine?”, “Loyalty card” and “receipt”.

Each checkout guest will be reminded of these ten signs by means of a small memo card.
