The General Organization for Seed Multiplication distributed 12,000 tons of wheat seed to agricultural banks, and 58,000 tons will be delivered successively.
Director of the Foundation, Dr. Bassam Al-Sulaiman, explained in a statement to SANA that the quantities of sifted and sterilized seeds have reached to date about 30 thousand tons, while the quantities distributed to agricultural banks have reached about 12 thousand tons, indicating that the daily production capacity of sifting at the Foundation is currently about 700 tons of sifted and sterilized seeds. According to Al-Sulaiman, the institution started sifting and preparing wheat seed from last June, in parallel with the process of receiving it from the farmers contracting with it, so that the seed would be ready for distribution to farmers at the appropriate times after completing the maintenance work for the sifting centers and securing the requirements for preparing the seed from sterilizers and packing bags.
It is noteworthy that the Corporation prepared 70,000 tons of wheat seed to implement the agricultural plan for the next season, in addition to a reserve of 20 thousand tons, sifted, sterilized, and distributed sequentially.
The Prime Minister had approved the recommendation of the Economic Committee to set the sale price for one kilo of wheat seed for the 2021-2022 season delivered by the General Organization for Seed Multiplication to farmers at 1,585 Syrian pounds, and the price of one kilo of barley seed at 1,743 pounds.
