The proportion of those who have their own merchant website has, however, increased from 9% to 20% in the space of eighteen months.

Reluctant to switch to the digital age, French micro-businesses and SMEs have been forced to take the plunge with the coronavirus crisis. They are now 66% to have a website presenting their activity, according to the France Num 2021 barometer. Before the pandemic, they were only a little over a third (37%). With social networks and SEO, they are even 81% to benefit from online visibility. However, just over a quarter (27%) have converted to online sales. The proportion of those who have their own merchant website has, however, increased from 9% to 20% in the space of eighteen months.

In detail, accommodation and food services is the most advanced sector. It has a 93% online visibility rate. In addition, half of its businesses use the digital channel for their sales, compared to 9% for those in the building and construction industry. If 78% of executives consider that digital represents a real benefit, it still arouses reluctance, since nearly half of respondents (44%) fear being hacked data.

"

This barometer proves that our action is bearing fruit and that we must step up our efforts

", reacts Alain Griset, the Minister for SMEs.

To accelerate the digital transformation of very small businesses, the government has not skimped on resources: 60 million euros have been released as part of the 100 billion recovery plan for them to invest in dedicated solutions.

More specifically, this envelope made it possible to help 112,000 VSEs to finance the creation of a website, online advertising, reservation solutions, the implementation of online payment or the purchase of various management software ( cash register, customer, stocks).
