According to a newspaper report, the government in London is relying on even more nuclear power to meet its climate targets.

Before the elections in 2024, the financing of a new nuclear power plant is to take place as part of their climate strategy, reports "The Telegraph".

"We are trying to approve at least one more large nuclear project in the next few years to strengthen energy security and create thousands of jobs," confirmed a government spokesman when asked by the Reuters news agency.

As a location, Sizewell C in the southeastern English county of Suffolk is being considered, writes the Telegraph, citing insiders.

There is already a nuclear power plant there.

By 2035, the UK aims to reduce its carbon emissions to zero.
