Flixbus mother buys legendary US chain Greyhound


Flixbus started three years ago in the USA, now it is taking over the biggest competitor Greyhound there. The people of Munich want to "meet the increased demand for environmentally friendly mobility in the USA".

The Munich travel company FlixMobility, mother of the long-distance bus operator Flixbus, swallows the US competitor Greyound.

"Flixmobility today took over Greyhound Lines, Inc., the largest long-distance bus operator in North America, from FirstGroup plc," announced Flixmobilty on Thursday morning.

The companies did not provide any information about the selling price.

"People all over North America rightly want affordable and sustainable travel alternatives to their private car," said André Schwämmlein, co-founder and CEO of FlixMobility, according to a press release.

"Together, FlixBus and Greyhound will meet the increased demand for environmentally friendly mobility in the USA."

In the USA, FlixBus started operations in 2018 with 27 destinations in the largest cities in the Southwest, including Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Phoenix.

The company now also offers trips to other cities in the Southwest, South, Northeast and Pacific Northwest.
