The second attempt may be the right one.
After giving up in extremis to buy PartnerRe in the spring of 2020, the French mutual insurer Covea (GMF, Maaf, MMA) is about to afford the reinsurer.
Discussions between the two groups have resumed in recent weeks, as revealed by the Italian press this weekend.
According to our information, they could be completed in the coming days.
Both sides are working with the same bankers and business lawyers as in early 2020, making negotiations for a friendly deal easier.
