This year, the General Authority for Fisheries and Aquaculture distributed about 170,000 fingerlings to family farms in various governorates with the aim of expanding them and encouraging fish farming and achieving self-sufficiency for rural families, with a plan to produce 10 million fingerlings next year.

Authority Director Dr. Abdullatif Ali Bin told SANA that the Authority plans to produce 10 million fingerlings of common and comb carp for cultivation in water bodies next year and is currently working on inventorying the natural and artificial spawning products of fish in its research centers in the tooth.

Ali pointed out that the production of 5 million fingerlings for this year to meet the needs of dam culture, especially the large ones, distributed between the cultivation of 3 million fingerlings in Qatina, Rastan, Al-Basil and Tishreen 16, and some water dams, of which 2.4 million fingerlings have been cultured so far in 11 water bodies in the governorates of Lattakia, Homs, Hama, Tartous and 2 The remaining million fingerlings will be used for experiments and the needs of private farmers and dam investors over the next year.

According to Ali, the commission granted 169,000 fingerlings to 1,218 family farms during this year, distributed among 251 farms in Hama Governorate, 225 in Tartous, 217 in Homs, 145 in Lattakia, 120 in Daraa, 100 farms in each of Damascus and Quneitra countryside, and 60 in Aleppo, all of which were produced last year. Expanding these farms, encouraging fish farming, achieving self-sufficiency for rural families, and benefiting from pond water for planting water.
