The online boom accelerated by the corona pandemic has brought Google permanently bubbling advertising income.
In the third quarter, sales climbed 39 percent currency-adjusted to $ 65.1 billion, as the parent company Alphabet announced on Tuesday after the US market closed.
As usual, Google's advertising business contributed the lion's share of the business with $ 53.1 billion.
The world's largest search engine provider benefits from the fact that people spend more and more time online and also shop there.
Google is by far the company that sells the most ads online in the world.
While advertising in the area of Google's search engine is still the mainstay, the importance of the video platform YouTube continued to grow.
Its advertising revenue rose from $ 5 billion to $ 7.2 billion.
The business with cloud services, in which Google wants to catch up with Amazon, grew by around 45 percent to almost five billion dollars.
As before, Alphabet's other subsidiaries generate little revenue with self-driving cars or delivery drones, for example - but high losses.
The collected revenues of these divisions hardly increased with a plus of 178 to 182 million dollars.
They brought in an operating loss of around 1.29 billion dollars, after a loss of 1.1 billion dollars a year ago.
Microsoft also has a good record
The rapid growth of its cloud division also boosted the business of competitor Microsoft.
From July to September, sales climbed 22 percent to $ 45.3 billion, as the world's largest software company announced on Tuesday after the US market closed.
That was well above the expectations of analysts.
Microsoft is benefiting from the trend towards hybrid working - the combination of times in the home office and in the office.
To achieve this, companies need storage space and applications in the cloud.
The profit increased in the first fiscal quarter by 22 percent to 17.2 billion dollars after adjustment for currency effects.
