The Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade confirmed that any material that is allowed to be imported is allowed for any importer.
In a statement, which SANA received a copy of this evening, the ministry expressed its astonishment at the insistence of some merchants to point out that some people have the exclusive right to import a certain substance or commodity without others.
The ministry expressed its permanent readiness to provide data on the number of importers and their names for each material and the quantities and values of imports, and to indicate whether the material is allowed to be imported for industrialists, for traders, or for both.
The ministry confirmed that what was circulated by some websites and pages attributed to one of the merchants regarding the import of vegetable oils is untrue, as raw vegetable oils are allowed to be imported for all industrialists, “all oil production plants,” in addition to oilseeds.
According to the ministry’s statement, the number of factories imported to it during the first nine months of 2021 alone amounted to nine facilities with a quantity of more than 58 thousand tons, while the amount of licenses granted to import vegetable oil of various types was in 2020 about 162 thousand tons and only during the first eight months of the year 2021 About 109 thousand tons, which confirms the stability of imported quantities of this substance in recent years.
The ministry indicated that the Syrian trade was allowed to import vegetable oil as part of its role in positive intervention in the markets to break prices, especially oil prices, which have witnessed noticeable increases recently.
