While heads of government are discussing climate change in Glasgow, Scotland, climate activists have blocked a coal-fired power station in Neurath.
Around 40 activists of the “Block Neurath” action group want to stop the supply of coal to the lignite plant in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The police confirmed the action.
Several people were spotted on the rails, said a spokesman.
The further action of the emergency services is now being planned.
Nine activists chained themselves to the tracks of the coal railway in two places, as the action group announced.
They would have attached themselves to concrete barrels and cement blocks poured under the rails.
The occasion is the world climate conference COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland.
»The world climate conference has been taking place for 26 years.
Since then, CO2 emissions have increased by 60 percent.
We need more than empty promises, ”said a spokeswoman for“ Block Neurath ”.
