Will there be ski resorts that are sold out next winter?

After a closure of the ski lifts at the height of last season, and a shortened previous season due to the resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic, the executive intends this time to promote tourism in the mountains.

“This winter, it's open, the stations are open”, declared the Secretary of State for Tourism, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, on the “4 Vérités” set of France 2 this Friday morning.

"Compared to last year, we have the vaccine and the vaccination," he reassured, adding "invite the French who have not yet done so to [reserve], because it rises very quickly very strong.

Soon there will be no more room ”.

From October 1, the Secretary of State for Tourism wanted to be reassuring, ensuring that the ski lifts will be able to reopen this winter.

But what about the health pass to be able to borrow them?

“Discussions are underway with professionals,” he said, promising a “response very quickly, in the coming days”.

Recruitment problems

The stakes are high: the closure of ski lifts has cost manufacturers and ski shops nearly a billion euros.

Many town halls and communities that make a living from winter sports have had difficulty - or even have not been able - to make ends meet.

"It is time for the French mountains to come back to life", underlined Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, highlighting the fact that the State had provided "more than 6 billion euros" in aid to the sector.

Tourism professionals are struggling to recruit in the resorts.

"Restaurants and bars are very affected," explained the President of France Montagne Jean-Luc Boch on Thursday morning on Franceinfo, deploring a "delay in lighting".

"We are all wondering what to do tomorrow to find full employment in the resort," reports this specialist.
