Carrefour announces a digital investment plan of 3 billion euros

Scheduled over the next four years, it should enable the group to reach 10 billion euros in online transactions per year by 2026.


The Carrefour group announced on Tuesday a digital investment plan of 3 billion euros for the period 2022-2026, after a plan of 2 billion over the previous five years.

Our digital advances will allow us to develop new sources of income and profits, but also to improve the operational performance of all our activities,

" said Alexandre Bompard, CEO of the group, in a press release.

Triple the volume of online transactions

Through its investment plan, the French distributor intends in particular to triple its volume of online transactions by 2026, to reach 10 billion euros per year.

Carrefour expects e-commerce to generate 200 million euros in additional current operating income in 2026 compared to 2021

", continues the group.

For this, it relies on different delivery methods (drive, home delivery in less than three hours or in less than 15 minutes), as well as on wholesale to professionals, with its Brazilian subsidiary Atacadão.

Carrefour also intends to develop its range of non-food products online, by relying on its market places and on social networks.

To mark its commitment to digital, the group said it would train all of its staff in digital, "

or about 100,000 people per year

", in partnership with Google.

The group also promises the creation of a venture capital fund dedicated to digital, as well as an "

innovation studio

", in order to invest in innovations and new start-ups in its sector.
