This is the price of success: the full reimbursement of hearing aids boosted sales in the first half of the year, but also "opportunistic practices in total contradiction with the spirit and the objectives of the reform", denounces the Union of hearing aid professionals ( SDA) in a press release.
To supervise "urgently"
This organization asks to "urgently supervise commercial advertising for hearing aids" in order to put "a quick stop to the most questionable campaigns", in particular those offering a "second pair" or "free glasses".
Arguing that hearing aids are "medical devices (which) cannot be considered as simple consumer goods", the SDA stresses that these "offensive marketing strategies" are carried out "at the expense of national solidarity".
The union even points to "a strong risk of financial slippage", first and foremost for Health Insurance, which should spend this year 200 million euros more than in 2019 for this sector, "of which a substantial part is certainly linked to these reprehensible practices ”.

The cost could be even higher for complementary health (mutuals, insurance, provident institutions), whose bill has doubled over the first six months of the year, or 278 million additional euros.
