The international food delivery company Walt will be sold for about $ 8.1 billion to the largest food delivery company in the United States, Dordash.

The Walt people yesterday (Tuesday) finally agreed on the acquisition, following which the Finnish Walt is expected to lead the attempts of the American Dordash to expand into the world market.

The deal will probably be finalized by the middle of 2022. Mickey Cossi, founder and CEO of Walt, is set to lead the expansion process, under the leadership of Dordash CEO and founder Tony Shaw.

"We have created specialization and specialization in business expansion," Cossi noted, while Shaw added, "We expect to excel and increase profitability."

Since the announcement of the merger, Dordash shares in Wall Street have soared by about 15 percent.

The "addicted" customers in Israel can breathe a sigh of relief - Walt's operations in the 23 countries in which it currently operates are not expected to change, and it is also expected to maintain the brand name, employees and famous app.

Walt, who entered Israel in 2018, has become one of the clear symbols of the period of economic struggle with the damage of the corona plague and the closures it brought with it.

The shipping giant Dordash was founded eight years ago and like Walt it focuses on deliveries from businesses to customers' homes.

It operates in the United States, Japan, Canada and Australia in about 7,000 cities.

The Finnish Volt was founded in Helsinki seven years ago and currently employs over 4,000 people.

In Israel, it currently operates in 26 cities, all the way to Be'er Sheva in the south.

Alongside the success, Walt has recently become a company that has received much criticism, both for its employment model, according to which most of its couriers work as freelancers without social rights, and for the dangers posed by couriers on the roads, as they are rewarded for many deliveries in a short time.
