Unemployment: checks on job seekers will increase by 25%

This Wednesday, Elisabeth Borne specified the modalities of controls announced Tuesday evening by Emmanuel Macron. The goal: to bring back the most unemployed

The measure was not improvised.

Tuesday evening, the President of the Republic warned that "job seekers who will not do active research will see their benefits suspended";

this Wednesday morning, the Minister of Labor announced that Pôle emploi would intensify its efforts to verify that the unemployed are doing everything possible to find a job.

“The controls will intensify.

Pôle emploi carried out around 400,000 checks in 2019. In the next six months, they will carry out 250,000 checks.

This is an increase of 25%, specifically in sectors under stress, Ӄlisabeth Borne said on RTL.

“It's quite normal, when we support job seekers as we have never done, that we make sure that they are actually looking for work.

Over the five-year term, we have invested 15 billion euros in training for job seekers, ”especially those who have not worked for a long time, she recalled, while the Head of State wants to be able to boost its record on the employment front within six months of the presidential election.

600 Pôle emploi employees will be dedicated to these checks

At the end of October, the number of unemployed categories A, B and C stood at 5.871 million, according to the Statistics Directorate (Dares) of the Ministry of Labor.

And the controls are not new: since 2008, a job seeker risks delisting if he refuses two consecutive offers.

A decree, dating from December 2018, even provides that in the event of insufficient job searches, the allowance is "canceled".

600 Pôle emploi employees will be dedicated to these checks, particularly in sectors under stress, such as construction and catering.

"Pôle emploi advisers will check that a job seeker responds to offers, goes to interviews, participates in recruitment sessions or follows the proposed training," added the Minister.

She specified that the evaluation of the efforts would be made "over several months" and that the response to the lack of research would be "graduated".

"The first time we can temporarily remove your allowance for a month and it can go as far as delisting if we start again", detailed Borne.
