Emmanuel Macron will visit Béziers on Tuesday to a company specializing in electrolyser technologies used for the production of carbon-free hydrogen, as part of the France 2030 plan, announced the Elysee on Friday.

Accompanied by Ministers Barbara Pompili (Ecological Transition) and Agnès Pannier-Runacher (Industry), the Head of State will visit the site of the Genvia company, created in March 2021 and resulting from research by the Atomic Energy Commission. and alternative energies (CEA) and a collaboration with the Schlumberger group.

The development of a carbon-free hydrogen sector is, underlined the Elysée,

“a priority for the energy and industrial sovereignty of France”

as well as an

“energy vector essential to climate neutrality”

.

"Leader in green hydrogen"

Emmanuel Macron unveiled on October 12 an investment plan of 30 billion euros over five years, called France 2030, intended to develop industrial competitiveness and future technologies in France. The Head of State aims in particular to build

“two gigafactories of electrolysers”

to become

“green hydrogen leader”

in 2030.

“Hydrogen must make it possible to decarbonize our industry and heavy mobility, as well as to medium term to allow large-scale storage of electricity, ”

said the Elysee on Friday.

"France has put in place a research, innovation and industry strategy, endowed with 7 billion euros on the subject"

, added the Presidency.

The steel, cement and chemical production sectors in particular need green hydrogen to replace fossil fuels.

A total of 8 billion euros must be invested in energy.

Of this sum, one billion euros will be aimed at developing

“breakthrough technologies”

in the nuclear field, notably with small reactors.

On Tuesday, Emmanuel Macron announced that France would relaunch a nuclear program and build new reactors on its soil, however postponing details of these future EPRs until later.
