The dollar has plummeted, will we pay less on shopping days?

November and the shopping holidays are a great opportunity to buy cheap, especially overseas.

The drop in the dollar exchange rate was supposed to intensify the celebration, but will we really pay less?

We dug in the archive, and together with the shipping company DealTas we checked the prices a year ago compared to those of today

There is quite a bit of talk - and not only in Israel, about price increases due to parameters such as: the supply crisis, the transportation costs they raised in the past year and the demand for chips that created a shortage of inventory.

In contrast to all this, in the last month the dollar has fallen to an unprecedented low since 1996 and the Israeli consumer can, ostensibly, buy more and pay less in shekels.

But did the low dollar rate offset the price increases?

Well, not always, not in every category and not in every product.

Before we set out to search and compare, here are the data - in November 2020 the dollar exchange rate was NIS 3.40 and today, a year later, the dollar has fallen to a value of NIS 3.10.

Savings of 30 cents per dollar.

This means that if a certain product cost $ 500 a year ago (which was NIS 1,700 a year ago) and suppose the price of a compatible product, this year, increased by 10% to $ 550, then we will pay about the same amount in shekels, despite the price increase.

That is - a full offset of the rise in prices due to the low dollar exchange rate.

According to data from the shipping company DealTas, November shopping is usually characterized by the purchase of electronics, including computers, game consoles, speakers, tablets and cellular equipment, as well as home and kitchen appliances such as vacuum cleaners, mixers, food processors and more.

Alongside these, sales in the fashion and clothing categories for children and toiletries are also rising.

According to this mix, we took ten products that were popular last year and are still relevant and in demand today.

It should be noted that some models are compatible but not identical - because there are updates - and we have tried as much as possible to adhere to the technical specifications of the products.

Test results: profitable or not?

: "The data shows that it pays to buy, but not at any price. The chains update prices all the time during November and you have to compare prices from several sites before you buy.

Note additional costs such as shipping within the US, in many cases free shipping "In other cases, there are additions of VAT to products with a value of more than $ 75 and final shipping costs to Israel. Another thing, due to a shortage problem, we recommend checking alternatives to the products you want, so that you will not be disappointed."

In conclusion, the decline in the dollar is indeed in line with the Israeli consumer and you can find affordable prices online for the products we want to purchase.

At the same time, always check and compare before purchasing.
