A thousand VIP members of Club Val Thorens were invited on Friday to open the ski area of the highest resort in Europe (2300 meters at the foot of the slopes).
Some 10,000 people are expected this weekend, with Val Thorens officially opening on Saturday.
After a white season, the ski lifts having been the subject of administrative closures due to the pandemic, it is the first French ski resort to relaunch.
Tignes and Les Deux Alpes opened their glaciers in October, but their estates will open later.
